Roi Chang Market opened just before the COVID 19 outbreak, which had a direct impact on the project. The designer was brought in to address these
challenges, replanning and redeveloping the entire project and dividing construction into phases that align with the project’s investment capacity.
Phase 1 involved refurbishing an existing building originally designed as a fresh market. The designer transformed the interior layout into a food court,
with shop areas positioned along the back of the building and a dining area at the front. The exterior facade was redesigned using a light steel frame,
giving the building a taller appearance while minimizing additional weight. This modernization makes the building more noticeable from the street.
An additional commercial building was constructed along the road in front of the project, adding to the market’s visual scale and presence.
Opposite the food court, a series of containers were prepared for restaurants or coffee shops, overlooking a central garden. For other sub-buildings with
existing tenants, the designer added covered walkways to visually align them with the main building, ensuring a cohesive style.
Two additional phases are planned. Phase 2 will introduce retail spaces and mini warehouses along the project’s main road, while Phase 3 envisions
a central building that could serve as a large fresh market or supermarket in the future. This phased development approach balances modernization with
budget considerations, supporting the market’s growth despite initial setbacks.
