This project focuses on designing a wedding venue outside of a hotel. In Thailand, most weddings are traditionally held in hotels due to the convenience they provide—ample parking,
a variety of room sizes, catering services, and climate control. However, influenced by international trends, more couples are now seeking to host their weddings outdoors.
Despite this growing interest, the hot climate and unpredictable rainfall remain significant challenges, making outdoor weddings a complex undertaking.
The designer began the process by asking: “What is the wedding moment?” The answer: it is a time when the bride and groom become the protagonists of their own story—a fleeting moment
of happiness, celebration, and heartfelt congratulations. Although it lasts only a few hours, every second is imbued with meaning. Recognizing this, the designer envisioned a venue that would
complement and elevate such a moment. The concept was to create a place that feels extraordinary—like a hidden realm, mysterious yet enchanting, where subtle distortions of reality heighten
the sense of uniqueness.
At the entrance, a tall solid wall conceals the interior from immediate view, gradually guiding the eye toward an open parking area. From there, sightlines intentionally direct visitors toward
the reception building, which leads them deeper into the venue.
The arcade walkway is designed as a ceremonial passage for the traditional Thai wedding procession. Classical architectural details are incorporated but presented asymmetrically
—columns of varying sizes and designs, with heavy solid walls appearing to float above the ground, allowing natural airflow. Overhead, dynamic patterns of light and shadow shift throughout
the day as sunlight filters in. The ceiling arches are stretched and twisted into circular forms, creating a heightened sense of anticipation before revealing the grand celebration hall beyond.
The first floor of the Ceremony Building accommodates traditional Thai wedding rituals, including the water-pouring ceremony, monk blessings, and banquet functions. In the Thai wedding room,
the ceiling design draws inspiration from floral motifs on the bride’s gown, while the curved walls reflect the flowing lines of a wedding dress. Natural light filters through upper openings,
softly linking the interior with the garden outside. The second floor provides accommodation for the bride, groom, and their families. Designed to host two wedding couples simultaneously,
it resembles a boutique hotel and is supported by dedicated butler service for personalized care.
The Banquet Hall is conceived as a grand glasshouse, immersing guests in the outdoor atmosphere. Its ceiling features large heat-resistant glass panels, opening the space to the expansive
sky above. Given the site’s location, free from surrounding tall buildings, couples may even celebrate under a star-filled night. Adjustable films allow the glass panels to switch between transparent
and opaque as required. In addition, projector mapping points have been integrated into the design, offering the potential to transform the ambiance—though this feature is not included in
the current phase due to budget constraints.
The hall is enveloped by lush gardens and a large swimming pool, seamlessly connected by curved solid walls. These walls control the atmosphere, conceal service areas, and unify the landscape
design. The pool itself includes stepped entry points for easy access, inviting guests to enjoy an after-party once the formal ceremonies conclude. At its center, a pavilion functions as a stage
for live music or as a poolside bar, enhancing the celebratory mood.
Every element of the design reflects the shared belief of the designer and client in the profound importance of the “wedding moment.” Through careful spatial sequencing, attention to detail,
and the framing of key viewpoints, the venue is crafted to ensure that every guest experiences a sense of joy, beauty, and lasting memory.
